Your excitement about your new laptop is but dreading the task of moving all of your files from the old computer to the new one. Sound familiar? You can make your life easier and have all of your program settings moved by using Windows Easy Transfer wizard.

Use Windows Easy Transfer to copy your files, photos, music, e-mail, settings, and more from a computer running Windows XP to a computer running Windows 7. You can transfer data using an Easy Transfer Cable, removable media, or across a network
What do I need to know about Windows Easy Transfer wizard?
- Supports Windows XP (SP2 or higher), Windows Vista, & Windows 7
- It must be running on both PCs
- It can be used on a network but I recommend using wire, not wireless if you want it done much faster
- The time it take depends on the amount of data and the type of network (wireless is slow). Be prepared to not use your PC for the day and make sure both are plugged in.
- It can move users, docs, music, pictures, and program settings
- You can customize it if needed to prevent certain folders or users from being moved.
- Start the Wizard by clicking the start button and typing Easy Transfer or download it here for Windows XP
Even as an IT expert I found this software quite useful. Just set it up and let it run. Easier than baking a pie!
